Aamir: Those who were biased raised questions about my intolerance comment
Aamir Khan returned from the US just in time for his 51st birthday (Aamir back home in lean avatar, Mar 14). As part of his birthday celebrations, the actor – dressed in a white T-shirt that was made by his son Azad – interacted with the media. From his weight loss to the intolerance controversy, Aamir talked about it all. Excerpts:

You seem to have lost all the excess weight you had piled on for Dangal...
I had gone to the US to specially lose weight and focus on my health. I would work out for almost 7 hours a day; I even indulged in trekking and mountain cycling. In the last 3 weeks, I lost 13 kgs but I still have to lose 12 kgs more. I want to go back to my Ghajini look.

Did you go on a diet as well?
I turned vegan last year itself. But my dietician has now asked me to include fish in my diet for 3 months. So I will have to do that, despite my vegan preference.

Buzz is, Dangal will release over the Independence Day weekend instead of Christmas...
I want it to be an Independence Day release because I think Dangal is essentially a patriotic movie. It also gives the message of women empowerment – when a man is unable to realise his dreams, his daughters fulfil it. But it may not be ready by August (which means Disney UTV is going back to its original plan of releasing Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro over the Independence Day weekend).

You mentioned that Dangal is a patriotic film. What according to you is patriotism?
Dil mein prem aur sensitivity honi chahiye. That’s patriotism.

You had a tumultuous phase last year when your intolerance comment faced severe backlash. What do you have to say about it now, in hindsight?
See, my audience knows me. I have had a relationship with them for 27 years. Those who were biased, raised questions about me and my intentions. The ones who are negative, they tend to shout more and make a hue and cry about it. But the ones who are actually positive, they stay calm. So I don’t want to react on that subject any more.

Your next season of Satyamev Jayate too is not happening. What’s the reason behind that?
That’s simply because we will be working on the ground, focussing on the water problem in our country. I want to make Maharashtra drought-free.

Finally, what’s your birthday wish?
I want to buy a house in Benares for my Ammi.
